Hilary J. Mastio
Hilary Mastio (neé Nuzum)
was born & raised in Newton. A third-generation Iowa
grad, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from
the University of Iowa in 1993, majoring in Art &
Spanish.

ilary attended the George Washington University Law
School in Washington, D.C., where she interned with
the Alexandria Public Defender's Office, the Delaware
Department of Justice, the Arlington Commonwealth's
Attorney's Office, and the U.S. Attorney for the District
of Columbia, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 2001.

Following graduation, Hilary spent seven years as an
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Norfolk, Virginia,
prosecuting over three thousand cases and receiving
extensive forensic science training. Hilary worked with
judges, probation officers, and local mental health
providers to operate the first ever Mental Health Court
in Virginia in 2005.

Since moving back to Newton in 2009, Hilary has
sponsored the middle school Mock Trial Team, coached
NASA soccer, and been the Treasurer for the Woodrow
Wilson PTA. She is also a member of the Iowa  and
Virginia Bar Associations, and the Jasper County Bar
Association, where she has been a past Treasurer and
served twice as President. She has been certified as a
Family Law Mediator in Iowa since June of 2012.

Hilary speaks Spanish and is accepting new clients. Her
practice  includes, but is not limited to: Criminal Law,  
Family Law/CINA, Real Estate Law, Small Claims, and
Estate Planning & Probate (including Guardianships &
Conservatorships).

She is also admitted in Virginia.
